Is any experience good experience?
I work in a Data Center on the facility maintenance side. Ive been told repeatably not to go into IT feilds cause I have no experience. I always have down time here at work and I find myself working with the guys who install servers, RIZ (sorry if this isnt the correct term) them and so on, so although it isnt my job I am learning there job.
How can I present this on my resume or in an interveiw one day? Is it worth anything?
By the way we are two seperate companies so I cant transfer and they cant hire me due to conflict of interest.
I don’t think you should put that as part of your resume, it’s not part of your job description. You can bring it up in an interview that this is your interest and you picked up some knowledge. I would also look into taking some classes at a community college or look at certification in this field. Finally, you may want to seek out family and friends who work in IT and see if they can help you get hired someplace. Often, it’s just knowing someone in the field who can help you get an entry level position.
